Fire Emblem 30 Day Challenge
Day 13: Have you seen the Fire Emblem (anime) OVA? Thoughts? - Yes
Yep, I’m returning to these after starting in May (around 5 months since #12), so I had this buried under my drafts for a while. xP I go by the original 30 day challenge so some question-numbers will be different to the more recent one.
I have seen the 2 episodes of the OVA they released and I do wish there were more. It isn’t a spectacular, mindblowing or meaningful anime but it is good enough to be worth a watch. It is also very close to the game with the obvious changes and additions, some of them which develop and show the backstory of chapter-centric characters like Nabarl, Julian and Lena. I am sure that if allowed to be continued, other minor characters would have been developed slightly or at least given a role that isn’t just “guy/girl with a name”.
If there’s anything I liked most, it was the showing of the Caeda/Ogma story, which was just slightly mentioned in the games. Taking aside me liking them slightly more than Marth/Caeda*, the two had more depth and lots of potential that the anime could have fleshed out. It’s nice to see a reversal of the “knight protecting the helpless princess”, and how both help the other grow out of their misconceptions or upbringings. Unfortunately, the series’ abrupt end left many questions unanswered and character stories untold.
*(hc: she cares for both equally, but she thought being with Ogma wouldn’t be acceptable)
